The Japanese rider fires from Row 2 as Aji claims fourth row start for Saturday's race
Takuma Matsuyama continued his fine run of qualifying form in the FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship by clinching fourth on the grid ahead of Saturday’s race at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The Junior Talent Team rider has now failed to qualify outside of the top six on only one occasion throughout 2021, and he'll head the charge on Saturday.
The grid was eventually set with the laps posted during the opening qualifying session of Friday after rain heavily affected the second session. Fortunately for Matsuyama, he found his groove nice and early to end up only a tenth adrift of pole position.
Indonesian Mario Aji was less than a second away from top spot too but will start from twelfth for Saturday’s race. He will also be confident of fighting at the front in any conditions, however, after ending up second fastest in the wet session. He also has previous experience at the track from the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
Tatchakorn Buasri claimed a place on the seventh row of the grid on his visit to Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Meanwhile, Eddie O’Shea will start from 31st on the grid as the FIM Moto3™ JWCh riders get the chance to shine alongside the stars of MotoGP™ at the San Marino Grand Prix, the Brit ready to continue his learning curve.
Matsuyama will be eyeing a first podium finish since Valencia in May, whilst Aji will be hoping to finally end his podium wait too. So tune in for a thriller on the Adriatic as the race gets underway at 17:15 local time (GMT+2) on Saturday!
