The Japanese rider heads the charge in Valencia, ahead of Aji, Buasri and O'Shea
Takuma Matsuyama will lead the Junior Talent Team charge away in the second round of the 2021 FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship, with the Japanese rider taking sixth in qualifying to complete the second row. Fresh from fighting for the win in Estoril alongside JTT teammate Mario Aji, it's another good show of speed from Matsuyama at the venue where he took his best rookie finishes last season. He was also fastest in the second Saturday qualifying session, laying good foundations for an attack at the podium on Sunday.
Aji, after ending the race in Estoril only hundredths off the rostrum, will also be expecting to fight at the front again in Valencia. It was a solid qualifying for the Indonesian and he'll line up in P14, looking to get good starts from the middle of the fifth row and launch forward into the front group.
Tatchakorn Buasri will line up in P26. With more than ten riders split by only a couple of tenths in the midfield, from two rows ahead to further behind the number 33, it's a tight pack and the Thai rider will be looking to make his way through on race day to fight for more points, as he did in Estoril.
Eddie O’Shea, meanwhile, managed to improve his laptime by 1.3 seconds in qualifying compared to his Friday best. The Brit continues to settle in and will start his second - and third - FIM Moto3™ JWCh races from P34 as he continues to cut the gap to his teammates and the group just ahead.
There are two 18-lap races for the FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship on Sunday, giving the JTT another two shots at the podium. Lights out for Race 1 is at 11:00 (GMT +2), before Race 2 starts later the same day at 14:00.
