Aji claims 7th to hand the JTT a double top 10 in qualifying ahead of Sunday’s two races

At a scorching Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto on Saturday, Junior Talent Team’s Takuma Matsuyama bagged P4 to lead the JTT charge in qualifying. The Japanese rider set his best time – a 1:46.501 – in the cooler morning temperatures to front the second row of the grid ahead of a Moto3™ Junior World Championship double-header on Sunday.

Matsuyama was just 0.128s shy of pole position in a very closely fought couple of sessions that also saw Mario Aji pick up his best Saturday result since his Barcelona pole. The Indonesian will line up seventh for both Race 1 and Race 2 on Sunday, a notable result considering Aji missed the 2020 round in Andalucia. Podium challenges are on the agenda for both Matsuyama and Aji in Jerez.

It was a more difficult day for Tatchakorn Buasri who has to settle for P31 on the grid. The Thai rider bagged his first Junior World Championship points in Jerez last season and will be aiming to get a good start, in order to try and do so again in both races.

Just a tenth behind his teammate in 32nd is Eddie O’Shea. The British rider is just 1.6s away from pole position on his first visit to Jerez on a Honda Moto3™ machine, and O’Shea will be hoping he can mix it with the riders all fighting for the points tomorrow.

Race 1 gets underway at 11:00 local time (GMT+2), with Race 2 starting at 14:00 in the afternoon. Tune in to see how the JTT quartet gets on!
