After getting so close to the podium first time out, Round 2 offers another shot at glory for the JTT
The FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship season opener at Estoril was a solid start to the year for the Junior Talent Team, and now the FIM CEV Repsol returns to Spain for Round 2 at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. After Mario Aji and Takuma Matsuyama fought for victory first time out, expectation is high ahead of a venue that has seen both, as well as Thai rider Tatchakorn Buasri, show some impressive speed already.
Last year in the three races at Valencia, all three of the returning veterans took their best results of the season. Matsuyama took a fourth place and a sixth, and the Japanese rider also started from the front row after an impressive qualifying in second. Aji took a sixth and a seventh, and Buasri took his first top ten result in the FIM Moto3™ JWCh. That lays fantastic foundations as they return to the venue, with some good form shown already in the fight at the front and Buasri also scoring his first points of 2021.
For Eddie O’Shea, meanwhile, it’ll be another great opportunity to gain track time and learn his way around his JTT machine. The weather in Estoril for the season opener hardly helped, with Friday a washout, and the Brit will be eager to start moving forward and homing in on his teammates after getting a lot closer in the JTT pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
There are two 18-lap races for the FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship this weekend in Valencia, giving the JTT another two shots at the podium. The first begins at 11:00 (GMT +2) on Sunday the 9th of May, before the lights go out for Race 2 later the same day at 14:00.
